Christopher Black, Architectural Designer/Project Manager

Over his 10 years of experience in Toronto, Edmonton, and Calgary, Chris has developed an expertise in integrating sustainable design principles with compelling design concepts and carrying them through construction projects of all sizes and types.  During the last seven years in Toronto, he has developed an in-depth knowledge of the development and approvals process for the City of Toronto, City of Halifax, and City of Oshawa and has successfully seen a number of projects through the rezoning, site plan, committee of adjustment, and permit process as well as the Ontario Municipal Board.  He routinely engages with stakeholders, ratepayer assocaitions, planning staff and city councillors, and project teams to successfully achieve a project’s development goals.  He has worked on all phases of design and construction with a variety of project types including masterplanning, retail, healthcare, education, high-rise office, and mixed-use residential and is able to combine his expertise in building science, detailing, and conceptual design throughout a project’s execution.  He attained his LEED-®AP designation in 2004.  Academically, he focused on low-energy building envelopes, climate change and the built environment, and net-zero energy.  He was one of the project architectural designers for the award-winning North House Net-Zero prototype house with the University of Waterloo.
