Located at 75 Canterbury Place in Toronto’s thriving North York Centre, the Diamond is 30 storey residential building containing 385 units.
The design engages and informs the City at three distinct scales; that of the “City”, the “Neighbourhood”, and the building “Address”.
At the city scale, the building massing and balcony distribution divides each facade into three parts, providing a bold vertical expression. The top five “setback” floors create an elegantly proportioned and distinctive tower top that makes a positive contribution to the ongoing quality and character of the North York skyline. When looking at the neighbourhood scale, the south podium elevation design provides strong definition to the outdoor amenity space located at the corner of Churchill Avenue and Canterbury Place, as well as to the neighbouring St. George’s church. The midrise portion of the tower is defined at the south east corner by a seven storey bay window that responds to the scale of the church, and serves as a neighbourhood landmark for pedestrians walking to and from Yonge Street along Churchill Avenue. A two storey podium along Canterbury Place provides an appropriate sense of human scale for the neighbourhood and responds well to neighbouring buildings. A large mid-block canopy along Canterbury Place, provides a clear and visible address identity.
