55 York

Location: toronto, Ontario
Completed: 2006

In this renovation and re-envisioning of an existing building in downtown Toronto, new LED exterior lighting was installed to highlight the existing Art Deco motifs and create a dramatic nighttime presence. The main entrance canopy was re-worked to define the entry while illuminated window awnings were installed at retail level.

The existing building’s Art Deco style also strongly influenced the upgrade of this lobby. The artwork behind the new security desk is a montage designed by the architect comprised of photographs of the exterior stone details. Seating, wall finishes, lighting and artwork are coordinated to enliven the space in this heritage property.
