Pacific Environmental Science Centre

Location: North Vancouver, British Columbia
Completed: 1994

This 5,645m2 consolidated laboratory facility for Environment Canada’s Conservation and Protection Laboratories, Field Labs, and Microbiology Labs is located on a 58 acre waterfront conservation area on the Burrard Inlet in North Vancouver, British Columbia. A former landfill area, efforts were taken with experimental environmental remediation measures and efforts to enhance the existing waterfowl habitat.

Given the site context, the Federal Government’s leadership role in environmental affairs, and public expectations, it is imperative that this “flagship” project demonstrates ecologically conscious design principles.

Structural and mechanical/electrical systems have been integrated with the functional fabric of the building, its architectural aesthetic, and surrounding natural environment.
