Frog’s Hollow

Location: Meaford, Ontario
Completed: 2003

This traditional post & beam home uses reclaimed barn timbers and sustainable technologies to provide modern amenities in a rural setting. Featured in Projects Green Toronto, and sponsored by the Toronto Society of Architects, the design of this country home employs passive solar design and solar water heating systems, a rainwater collection system, as well as natural ventilation and day lighting strategies. Much of the interior wood finishes are comprised of locally sourced reclaimed barn planks and timbers, housed beneath a standing seam metal roof made from 100% recycled steel. The entire home is powered by a hybrid photovoltaic and wind energy system located on-site.
